Rain and the opportunity of more climbing made me change my plans an other time. I decided to join Elias on a little road trip in the states. For sure we had the obligatory border crossing issue. We did´nt bring US dollars to pay the visitors fee. So we got sent back. Technicaly we did´nt leave Canada, but the Canadian custom officers had a different point of view. They sacrified some time checking our cars and wondering if we brought any fire arms... At the end of the day we entered the country of endless opportunities.

Elias got a this fancy jacket in a second hand shop and tried to camouflage immediately on the street. In Austria we would call him a real „Werama"!

One morning I woke up in my car when I captured this photo.

Our first destination was Leavenworth in Washington. This comunity decided to give the town a bavarian touch in the sixties after economy broke down. The definitly hit their goal. One european stereotyp is chasing the other. You could shop in the „Marktstrasse" hang out at „Cafe Mozart" or have a „Weißbier and a Brezn" in the beergarden. Even Starbucks and Mc Donalds are bavarian styled. Hilarious, I like that..

Besides trash on a high level there is excellent granit climbing in leavenworth as well. Cruising the last pitches of outer space on snow creek wall.

All we wanna do is trad.

Traditional swiss no gear anchor after the crux.

Satisfied after a great climbing day and happy that my cold did´nt get worse.

I left Smithers and was heading to the rockies. But I didn´t get far. My car broke down at the petrol station in Houston. The starter died. Luckily I got a new one at the part store in town. Having the skills and leaning the tools from KAL TIRE allowed me to get back on the road again within five hours. After an other day driving I met Elias, a swiss climber (we knew each other from climbing in Squamish before), in Jasper.

One of our climbing adventures was a climb called „cardiac arete" on the Sentinel Tower in Lake Louise. Exposed climbing on extraordinary quartzite rock in a scenic indian summer landscape made it a perfect day for us, despite we had to share with approximately thousands of tourists from all over the world.

...summit satisfaction

Climbing on Mount Rundle. The weather can change very quick in the rockies. feels quite a bit like back home in the alps.

Both of us maintain the „living in the car life style" on a high level. Reason enough to open a parking-lot kitchen in Canmore. Maybe we will start a cooking show soon.

There was snow in the mountains this morning so we had to be creative finding a sheltered breakfast area.

And eventually I found the time to pay attention to other necessary things in my live. Although my fingers appreciate a break after six days climbing in a row.

more from the north

After a breathtaking sunset on Mt. Elizabeth and fishing on Kitimat River I drove to Prince Rupert and spent a day sightseeing there. Then I stopped in Smithers to visit my friend Greg again and we got the chance to finish our first ascent at Twin Falls.

One of my top five sunsets ever on mt. elizabeth.

The Prince Rupert Container Terminal is one of the biggest Gateways to Asia in North America. I tried to convince the Security Oficer to give me a tour, sorry no chance for me this time.

We set up a the first multi pitch climb in Smithers. We named the the climb the „the fall fair pool party". It´s a decent 5.9 adventurous climb with a couple of special features. Recommended Gear: a 70 m rope, seven quick draws, a small rack of cams & nuts, an extensional ladder for the aproach and your bathing suite - you might need it on top!
